which the new album takes its name, is the highway which crisscrosses

Panamericana was recorded by Andy Taub mixed
by Mark Plati and features a stellar cast
of guest musicians including keyboardist Anthony Coleman,
vibraphonist Matt Moran, clarinetist
Oscar Noriega, accordionist Josh
Camp and Gypsy Swing guitarist Stephane Wrembel.

RUMBA INTERNATIONALE, Las Rubias' first
album, was released on February 14th, 2004. It was the first
release on the Barbès
label. The eight track CD features songs written by Margarita
Lecuona (of Tabu and Babalu fame), W.A. Mozart
and The Sons of the Pioneers, as
well as selections previously interpreted by artists as varied
as Nat King Cole, Los Panchos,
Edith Piaf, and Abba.
The result is a smooth, beautiful CD which stays clear of
kitsch or hipster irony, while retaining both a sense of humor
and a sense of tradition. Rumba Internationale has been called
“surpassingly pretty” by critic Robert Christgau.
